The cotton we use to make your products is organic and its name is Pima, which means that it is harvested by hand by small farmers in the valleys of Peru, because the process is totally manual, the fiber is not damaged and is converted at the same time in a fiber so fine that it is classified as the best cotton in the world.

Why should I wear organic cotton underwear?

Did you know that today almost 75% of all women have had at least one yeast infection in our life?


One of the causes is the synthetic materials that we use in underwear, which by generating more moisture increasing the risk of generating infections and irritations.


That is why at Maathai Organic we have created a line specially designed for you that protects your health through the use of materials such as organic cotton where we minimize the problems of irritation and infection in the intimate area which synthetic materials generate, giving you greater peace of mind and comfort in your day to day.

What type of cotton do my clothes have?
The organic cotton that we use to make your garments is PIMA, which has an extraordinary length, fineness and softness in its fibers as its main characteristics. The use of this type of cotton ensures a product with very fine, uniform and above all resistant yarns. It is important to note that this type of cotton is harvested by hand, a fundamental factor for its purity.
Is it better to wash my cotton underwear in cold water?

This depends, since the garment label defines at what temperature it is allowed. When you wash with hot water it is easier to remove stains but it can also speed up the process that certain fabrics shrink.

In our case, we always recommend cold water to wash cotton garments. Always less than 30 °. If possible, wash by hand or if it is in the washing machine with a mesh bag on a delicate cycle. (Remember to read the label of the garment)

Can I wash my underwear together with other clothes?

Can washing my underwear with vinegar prevent infections?

Vinegar does not help prevent infection and does not help eliminate bad smells.

Can I use baking soda to remove stains from my panties?

Although baking soda can help remove stains, you should check if the material your panties are made of is suitable or not.

In the case of cotton panties, we have not yet verified their effectiveness.

Can I let my panties dry in the shower?

Humidity is the perfect environment for bacteria! It is not recommended to let your underwear dry in the bathroom.

Where to dry my underwear?

Avoid direct exposure to the sun so that the colors remain intact. Find a ventilated place so that your clothes dry well.

What is the difference between conventionally grown and organic cotton?

For him conventional cotton cultivation, at present several pesticides are still being used to have greater coverage, against pests that affect conventional cotton cultivation. Among the most used are: CYPERMETHRIN, METAMIDOPHOS, TRIBUFOS, PARAQUAT, ENDOSULFAN AND CHLORPYRIFES that are grouped in Categories I and II and are Class I and II toxic, which are found after being investigated in seeds and waste from land clearing. cotton. Most pests develop immunity to these products over a period of 5-6 years, forcing companies to develop increasingly harsh chemicals.


The cultivation of organic cotton has multiple benefits that begin with the support of more than 160 families in three different valleys of Peru. Each farmer manages pests in a natural way therefore the quality of the soil allows to produce organic and fresh vegetables. Thanks to the certification of the fields with the GOTS standard, the use of GMOS is not allowed. Ultimately, the health and safety of farmers and their families is improved since they are not exposed to the toxic chemicals they are subjected to in conventional cotton farming. Additionally, fair business relationships and a good quality of life are promoted to all the people involved.

What type of certification does organic cotton have?
Our organic cotton has been grown respecting the environment in all phases of the process, from harvest to its transformation process into fabric. These processes are certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), USDA, and the European Union with its control label in organic agriculture.
Why can they say that their products are organic?

Your garments are organic because they come from an organic agriculture that is defined as a cultivation system of an autonomous agricultural exploitation based on the optimal use of natural resources, without using synthetic chemicals, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) —not for compost neither to combat pests — nor for crops, thus obtaining organic food while preserving the fertility of the soil and respecting the environment. Additionally, our company has the certificate; TRANSACTION CERTIFICATE (TC) FOR TEXTILE PROCESSED ACCORDING TO THE GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD (GOTS). A certificate issued by the control union certifier, which includes the guarantee that the cotton has been grown in good conditions for the health of workers and that of the planet.

Where do you buy the main raw material?

Why can't they get organic cotton in Colombia?

In Colombia, the organic cotton market is practically non-existent, not only due to the lack of crops with this type of characteristics, but also of a chain —transport, ginning and spinning mills— that is capable of complying with the necessary standards.

However, the future of buying organic cotton in Colombia may be promising for brands like ours since there is currently an initiative that has borne its first fruits from the hand of Prosierra and Environomica where they have managed to carry out the first harvest of organic cotton in the region.
