Inspired by change and small actions our philosophy is based on offering products made in a responsible and honest way, knowing that we are positively impacting the textile industry.

Our Inspiration

We have always been passionate about nature, especially for trees, which is why our brand is named Maathai in honor of Wangari Maathai, a kenyan political activist and environmentalist from the ethnos Kĩkũy, who has been the first African woman to receive the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2004 for her contribution to sustainable and environmental development.

Inspired by the softness and comfort of the cotton we create a feminine intimate line with one of the finest and special fibers of the world, the organic pima cotton, which by its properties provides a unique shine and softness. This cotton is grown in the fertile valleys of Peru free of all types of pesticides and chemicals that may affect the health of the farmers who grow it.

We believe in real actions

We believe that we are all united by the responsibility to care for and protect our greatest treasures, our trees that are home to over 80% of the species of animals and plants living there. As a for-profit company we have the power to heal the damage to the environment. By linking each product sold to a cause, we join our beliefs with our business and we deliver on our promise through our company to contribute and positively impact our planet. We do this because we believe that together we can do small actions reflected in important changes for the future. More significantly, we believe that companies have the opportunity to influence real and meaningful change.

We seek people from all over the world who believe in our philosophy and thus demonstrate that we can create solutions through responsible and honest actions.
Each piece is made by single mothers in Colombia, who fight just like you to achieve their dreams and provide a better quality of life to their families.

Passion for details

Our design is focused on simplicity by our basic garments which behind the appearance are full of meanings made visible through a conscious look which seeks to protect and preserve the environment through the use of ecological and sustainable processes. With our philosophy we make every effort to ensure that from the cultivation and harvesting of organic cotton to the final sewing all processes are done in a clean and responsible way which is taking care of the environment.

Every organic cotton product represents a step in the right direction. Cotton is used in 40% of   worldwide textile production, giving it a  widespread, global reach. By choosing organic cotton, you're doing your part to ensure that global impact is a beneficial one.

Why is organic cotton different?

Organic cotton has the special characteristic of being cultivated in a land free of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and defoliants, being the opposite of conventional cotton cultivation. Cotton is harvested by hand in its entirety, which generates many benefits, among them less environmental impact since no machinery is used for the harvest, it gives work to members of the community and also guarantees the quality and purity of the product.

The abuse of pesticides and industrial fertilizers, especially the nitrogenous ones, has degraded soils and contaminated waters of many parts of the planet. On the contrary the use of organic cotton keeps the water clean and workers' health safe from disease.

We apply the policies for clean production and preventively take into account raw materials, products, processes and work organization, all with the objective to minimize emissions and / or discharges at source, reducing risks to human health and the environment.

We implement the following aspects in the process to make our garments cleaner:

All waste from the cutting and production of our garments are recycled and converted for a second use in a preventive way to achieve a significant waste reduction in our environment.

Efficient use of energy

We eliminate the useless energy consumption when the sewing machine is not sewing and we reduce the energy consumption by 60 to 80% for each cycle.

Each raw material used in the production of our garments does not contain lead or other metals which are harmful to our health and are generally used in the textile industry, especially in underwear. Each input being used is carefully selected. Buckles, straps and laces complement the design of each garment without affecting our concept of clean production.

Fair payment

Each elaborated piece meets the conditions of fair payment to each of our mothers in charge of placing love and their work to make each garment. We do not work with children or support forced labor.

We manufacture in Colombia as it is an industry with more than 100 years of experience and a consolidated production chain. We also support the work of hundreds of families who have workshops formed by single mothers which serve to support their own families.
